Detail you can look at twice
Realism tattooing is about making an image look like a photograph on skin: smooth gradients, accurate light and shadow, and detail fine enough to hold up close. It depends less on outline and more on value, on how the darks, mid-tones and highlights sit against each other.
At Dreadmoor Tattoo in Layton, realism is handled by Tyler and Kevin Begay. Tyler also does micro-realism, the same lifelike detail at a much smaller scale. Many of our realism clients compare portfolios for weeks before they book, so we show healed work, because that is what tells you how a tattoo will look in five years.
Every piece is custom. We talk through the reference, placement and size, and your artist draws the design around your body. Faces and pets have their own page, so if that is what you want, see our portrait tattoos.
