Cover-Up Tattoos in Layton, Utah

Covering an old tattoo is not the same job as drawing a new one. We will look at what is already there, tell you honestly what can be hidden and what cannot, and how many sessions it is likely to take. Makenzie, Tyler and Kevin do most of our cover-up work.

Honest about what can be covered

A cover-up is not a new tattoo with an old one hiding underneath. What is already on your skin decides what is possible — how dark it is, how old, how much scar tissue it left behind. We read all of that before anyone draws anything.

Some tattoos vanish completely under the right design. Others need a session of laser lightening first, or a bigger piece than you had in mind. We will tell you which one you are looking at during the consultation, which is free.

Meet the artist

Makenzie Taylor

Makenzie does more cover-up work than anyone else in the shop. Illustrative and neo-traditional, heavy on black and grey — which is usually what it takes to bury something properly. She will tell you straight what can be hidden and what cannot.

How cover-ups work

Bring the tattoo in. Photos help, but we need to see it in person — ink reads differently in daylight than it does on a phone screen.

We draw over it. A cover-up design is built to the shape of what is already there, which is why it rarely looks like something you would pick off a wall. Darker, denser and larger is usually what works.

Most cover-ups take more than one sitting. We will tell you how many we think it needs before we start, and we would rather over-estimate than surprise you halfway through.

Ready to cover something up?

Bring it in and we will take a proper look. The consultation is free, and it is the part where we are straight with you — including if the honest answer is that laser lightening first would give you a better result than anything we could draw today.
