Depth without colour
Black and grey is the most honest form of tattooing. With no colour to carry the eye, everything rests on value — how far the black is pushed, how softly the grey falls away, and how much clean skin is left to breathe. Done well, a flat surface reads as form: a jawline, a fold of fabric, smoke pulling away from a candle.
We build our black and grey work in layers. Solid blacks anchor the composition, washed greys carry the mid-tones, and negative space does the rest. That approach holds its contrast for decades rather than months, which matters more than how a fresh tattoo photographs on the day.
It suits realism and portraiture, gothic and fantasy illustration, ornamental blackwork, and dark botanical or animal studies — anything that lives or dies on detail.
